Tips for preventing dandruff

Q: I often have dandruff in the winter, but lately it 'snows' even in warmer weather! I wash my hair every other day with dandruff shampoo, and I have rinsed with vinegar and even Listerine. My hair is 'normal,' not oily. Any suggestions?

JVW: You can put away the mouthwash, or any other preparation you've poured on your hair to get rid of the dandruff. You will be surprised just how quickly your dandruff disappears when you eliminate all refined sugars and carbohydrates from your diet and eat more foods containing essential fatty acids, like fish, omega eggs, nuts, and seeds. Flaxseed and cod liver oils are excellent sources of essential fatty acids, too. Add a multiple vitamin with at least 50 mg of vitamin B6 and 200 to 300 micrograms of selenium daily and watch the improvement.
