Testosterone's benefits start sinking in I was excited enough just to read an article acknowledging the benefits of testosterone, rather than (incorrectly) pointing the finger at it as a cause of prostate cancer. But that was just the tip pf the proverbial iceberg. According to new research done at UCLA, testosterone may offer hope for men battling what is often a hopeless condition: multiple sclerosis (MS). The study was small -- just 10 participants -- but the findings were significant enough to get it published in one of the leading medical journals -- The Archives of Internal Medicine. Here's how it panned out: Researchers gave the men a topical gel containing 100 milligrams of testosterone and instructed them to apply it daily. After a year, the researchers found that the testosterone therapy had resulted in a significant improvement in cognitive function. It also appeared to slow the brain deterioration and nerve damage associated with MS. But my own personal favorite study conclusion was the one made by the lead author: "Testosterone therapy appeared to be safe and well tolerated with no reported side effects." Except better health, that is. |
