Eliminate allergies to rid yourself of IBS Q: Can you suggest an all-natural method for dealing with my IBS? Dr. Wright: It might take a little time and work, but you can get your IBS under control completely naturally. In a promising study, 20 individuals with IBS (diagnosed by standard criteria) had blood tests done for food and mold allergy (IgE and IgG antibodies) as well as tests for normal and abnormal bowel microorganisms. They all tested positive for a variety of food and mold allergies, and all had imbalances between "friendly" and "unfriendly" bowel bacteria. The researchers treated them by allergy elimination and rotation, as well as with probiotics. After these changes were made, the subjects showed significant improvement in stool frequency, pain, and "quality of life" scores. After one year, the allergy elimination and rotation was found to be so helpful that it was still being followed, with minimal remaining IBS symptoms and excellent perception of control over the problem. The continued use of probiotics was found less helpful. |
